After a series of missed gigs, an arrest on a gun charge and weeks of troubling rumors about bizarre behavior, a spokesperson for comedian Katt Williams announced on Sunday that the “Norbit” co-star has sought a doctor’s help.

“Following an arduous 300 shows and an 18-month touring schedule that left him incredibly fatigued, Katt, a veteran of MTV’s ‘Wild ‘N Out,’ felt compelled to be with his family in an effort to deal with his stress,” read a statement from Yvette Shearer. “While doing so, he is under a doctor’s care.”

According to the South Carolina paper the Sumter Item, the hospitalization came after family members concerned about Williams’ behavior confronted the comedian following a run-in with police in Sumter on Friday. The paper reported that Sumter police received a call Friday morning about suspicious behavior by Williams, 35, who was attempting to book a room at the Mount Vernon Inn.

An officer told the paper that around 8:30 a.m., police received a call from hotel employees, who said they became suspicious when Williams tried to rent a hotel room while dressed in a bathrobe, with a towel wrapped around his head. Police responded to the scene, spoke to Williams, determined there was no criminal activity and left.

Local station WIS-TV has posted a video of a confused-looking Williams trying to check into the hotel, searching his pockets for ID and squatting by the door after the clerk informs him that his traveling companion will have to take responsibility for the room.

The newspaper reported that Williams then walked several blocks to the office of local attorney Garryl Deas and told the lawyer that the police were “attempting to violate his rights” and that he was interested in hiring Deas to represent him. Deas said he had a pleasant conversation with Williams, who described his entertainment career to the lawyer, mentioning that some people thought he was missing recently due to a series of skipped gigs, including a no-show at the BET Hip-Hop Awards, a missed “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” appearance and an arrest on November 6 on gun charges. Williams was also recently the subject of a rumor that he had died in a plane crash…

“Oh, Liz, there’s that Ohio wit again!”

“The Daily Show” correspondent John Oliver’s brisk British accent resonates in the still, comfortable air of Liz Shaw’s historic home in Meigs County.

Shaw’s brow furrows curiously. Her dog howls from the backyard. The show’s producer, Ian Berger, critiques the scene. And despite an urge to laugh, the video crew films silently, carefully capturing an interview set to be featured on this Thursday’s episode of “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart,” airing at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.

This “Ohio wit” that Oliver refers to is perhaps Shaw’s repeated ability to make even the comedian laugh, which he says “never happens…”

David Allen Grier’s “Chocolate News” to pick up where “Chappelle’s Show” left off?

12 10 2008

Vodpod videos no longer available.

In case you couldn’t tell, Comedy Central is hyping up David Allen Grier’s new comedy show “Chocolate News” to an obscene degree… but will it be good?

From what I’ve seen, I predict it WILL be. Comedy Central has been a little disappointing lately with its original programming (except for the Sarah Silverman Program which I love). The worst decision they ever made was replacing Chappelle’s Show with Mind of Mencia– don’t even get me started on how worthless Mencia is as a comedian– but I think D.A.G.’s new show is Comedy Central’s own way of saying they screwed up and are finally giving us what we want: quality social and political commentary from an experienced and hilarious comedic professional. I don’t think Grier will disappoint. Catch the premiere of his new show “Chocolate News” this Wednesday at 10:30 p.m. on Comedy Central!!

Below is a link to the full audio of an old Loveline radio episode back when it was good and hosted by Adam Carolla and Dr. Drew. David Allen Grier is the guest and this is by far one of the best radio show episodes I have ever heard. Once you listen, you’ll understand why and how D.A.G.’s new show will be hilarious:

Loveline Radio – April 16, 2006 – Guest: David Allen Grier
Runtime 1:31:52

P.S.: Did you know that David Allen Grier’s birthday is June 30, 1955– making him 53 years old! It’s been a LONG time since “In Living Color”, people…

Russia moves to ban ‘South Park’

8 09 2008

From Yahoo News…

MOSCOW (Reuters) – Prosecutors in Russia want to ban the award-winning satirical U.S. cartoon “South Park,” calling the series “extremist” after receiving viewer complaints, a spokeswoman said on Monday.

South Park,” a cartoon aimed at adults and featuring a group of nine-year olds in a Colorado town, has courted controversy since its 1997 debut, lampooning celebrities, politicians, religion, gay marriage and Saddam Hussein.

But investigators have filed a motion after deciding an episode broadcast on Moscow television station 2×2 in January “bore signs of extremist activity,” said regional prosecutors office spokeswoman Valentina Titova.

“In accordance with the conclusions made by experts from the court investigations committee, a claim has been filed against 2×2 for its broadcast of an episode of South Park,” Titova said.

“South Park” has won two Emmy Awards and was first shown on the U.S. Comedy Central network. It is dubbed into Russian and rebroadcast on local networks, including 2×2, a channel which broadcasts animated series in Moscow and St Petersburg.

A representative for 2×2 was not immediately available for comment.

“Well, according to today’s Washington Post Style cover he is. And Amy Poehler’s Wonder Woman! The Post dubs them “comedians of clout,” and while we know the kids hang on Stewart’s every word, how do they stack up against the real news people.

Other News vs. Comedy cases pop up on the dial: In its season finale last month, “Saturday Night Live” attracted about 6.5 million viewers. “CBS Evening News” is averaging about 5.7 million viewers nightly. That means that Amy Poehler, the diminutive, perky faux anchor, garners a larger audience to watch her deliver fake news than Katie Couric, the diminutive, perky true-life anchor, does to see her deliver real news.

A similar numbers game plays out on the cable channels. “The Daily Show” drew about 1.8 million viewers recently, as clocked for a Pew study, putting the program on a ratings par with Fox News’s “Hannity and Colmes,” and exceeding such other news-commentary shows as Chris Matthews’s “Hardball” on MSNBC. In comparison, Fox News’s “The O’Reilly Factor” draws about 2.6 million viewers nightly.”
